Thank you to the Best Western Chesapeake Bay North Inn for a very pleasant stay.

Today we offered our running to our dear sister-friend Chandini Bachman who used to coordinate this section of the run and who dedicated a large part of her life to serving the Peace Run and in particular liaising with the US House of Representative as well as the Senate. Sadly Chandini passed away in the early hours of April 13. This photograph was taken on April 18, 2008, also pictured is Salil Wilson.

Ideal weather for running, we can feel that we have moved more south with milder temperatures than when we left New York a couple of days ago.

Today we had a wonderful moment when our friend Taran spotted us on the road and stopped us to say hi. He used to live in New York but recently moved to Maryland. He drove home and brought back some chai that his mom made for our team. Thank You Taran!

One part of the girls' team visited the small town of Rising Sun and took a photo in front of this historic image.
In 1916 women voted in the Rising Run municipal election for the first time - and this was 4 years before the 19th Amendment to the Constitution passed, which provided voting privileges to women accross the nation.

Rotraud tried driving our big mobile home (RV) for the first time and she managed very well!

There were beautiful blossoming trees along the roads which we ran on and we enjoyed this spring time enormously.

In the evening we had the privilege to visit the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. It was a very inspiring place with the statue of Jefferson facing the direction of the White House in the distance.
Jefferson is the principal author of the Declaration of Independence written in 1776.
According to Sri Chinmoy, who valued the ideals of Jefferson very much, the most prominent essential qualities of Thomas Jefferson were clarity, luminosity and vastness.
Sri Chinmoy also added that Jefferson was the most divinely talented man of his time.

The Memorial was being visited by many people, mainly students at this time of the day and they wanted to take a photo with the torch.

A moment of silence to pay homage to the Founding Fathers. This place felt like a temple and we left uplifted just by being there.
