Pryvalka - Grodno

Reported by Devashishu Torpy 34.0 km

In the early hours of the morning, on a quiet and empty road, we approach the Belarus border.

The Belarus border guards and customs officers were delighted to hold the torch and share their hopes for Peace in the World.

Our first steps in Belarus.

A traditional greeting.

And off along a silent avenue of trees we run!

Today is the first of September, the first day of school. It is a special day in many East European nations. It is also called 'a day of Peace'.

The students in Gozha are all smartly dressed and carrying flowers.

On the way into the next city, Grodna, students spontaneously join us.

In Grodna we visit a large school in the midst of it's first day of school celebrations.

Students and parents are gathered outside the front entrance.

Students perform.

Balloons are released.

We present the Peace Run to tremendous applause.

This wonderful 'first day of school' celebration makes the occasion very significant and gives the children a lot of joy.

School dinners - very nice!

These wonderful ladies organise support for parents who have critically ill children. Their selfless service is truly commendable!

Our coordinator from the city leads us to the stage at a festival in the centre of the city.

Singing the Peace Run song.

Regional TV asked for an interview.

Ice Cream!!!
