Peace begins with me!

The school program was well prepared with slides projected on the big screen.

These torches were displayed around the hall.

Run, run, run, run! Actions to the World Harmony Run Song.

Congratulations to Emily Gomez who received our Torch-Bearer Award! A few words about Emily: In class she can be seen assisting other students as well as her teacher. She always volunteers to hand out text books, papers, etc. She is a great role model and is always on task. When it comes to her assignments and her class work, she’s an excellent student, caring and loving towards the other students in her class. She was also a volunteer singer and student ambassador for the grand opening of the new student media center.

Congratulations Torch Bearers!

We appreciate all the preparation for our visit!

Big congratulations to another Torch-Bearer recipient, Safa Green! Some reasons she was chosen to receive the award... She is a student who does not engage in conflict with anyone. She pretty much gets along with everyone. She is very friendly and has a personality that attracts all students she engages with. She is very welcoming even to new students at IS 59. She is one of those students in which you do not have to instill in her the means of consideration. She also overextends herself to others. She is the first person who is willing to do anything at the drop of a hat to grace anyone with kindness.

Our final Torch Bearer recipient was Ms. Sheffield! I don't think I have ever heard such enthusiastic cheers as when she was introduced. Students voted for her, and gave a reason why. A few of the beautiful reasons given: -very peaceful, kind, and caring -respectful, funny and helpful. -She doesn't yell; she listens -She is up lifting and cares about your well being -She treats us with love -She's kind and always trying to make the best of everything -She is polite, nice & cares for others. -She is very understanding and the best teacher I have ever had -She is always giving hugs to people, -she listens when you need someone to talk to and she makes me feel very safe. -Shes doesnt make kids cry

Fabulous dance performance to Micheal Jackson's "I'm looking at the man in the mirror, I'm asking him to make that change!"

These kids shared some beautiful, thoughtful peace poems!

PEACE!

Enthusiastic Teachers run a lap around the auditorium for peace!

Students offer their hopes for World Peace!

Aspiring young peace runner!

All our gratitude to Ms. Nairne for putting so much into making this event so wonderful- we look forward to next time!

Time to run with the torch!

A big team thank you to Principle Cooke for his support and oneness! This was a perfect last school- thank you so much to everyone who made today and each day in Queens such an inspiration and joy for us all!

O peace-dreamers of the world, O peace-lovers of the world, Do not hesitate. Unite and unite and unite! -Sri Chinmoy
