It was a rainy day in Ottawa, but that did not dampen the spirits of the lovely Moe Garahan. We were delighted to present her with the Torch-Bearer Award for her work with urban agriculture, connecting farmers with community partners and making food accessible. She is the Executive Director of Just Food, a non-profit grassroots organisation that enables the National Capital Commission to have viable agriculture in its urban greenbelt lands which supplies into the local food network. They have created such projects as Ottawa Food Hub, Incubator Kitchen and Savour Ottawa; all initiatives that connect local farmers, food processors, entrepreneurs and restaurants. They also spearheaded the all important Seed Saving Project and the Start-Up Farm Program.
Une journée pluvieuse à Ottawa, mais cela n’a pas freiné les esprits de notre charmante Moe Garahan. Nous étions enchantés de lui offrir le Médaillon d’Honneur du Flambeau de la Paix pour son travail avec l’agriculture urbaine, connectant les fermiers avec la communauté afin d’établir un partenariat et rendre la nourriture accessible. Elle est l’Administratrice de «Just Food» (Juste Nourriture), une organisation de base, sans but lucratif, qui permet à la Commission de la Capitale Nationale d’avoir une agriculture rentable sur les terres «greenbelt» (de ceinture verte) urbaines qui approvisionnent le réseau alimentaire local. Ils ont créé des projets comme, Le Centre alimentaire d’Ottawa, La Cuisine Incubateur et Saveurs d’Ottawa: toutes ces initiatives relient entre eux, les fermiers locaux, les transformateurs de produits alimentaires, les entrepreneurs et les restaurants. Ils ont aussi mené à bien d’importants projets tel que «Seed Saving Project» (projet de conservation des semences) et le projet Fermes de Démarrage.

We conducted our ceremony at the charming Woodpark Community Garden, a pilot project creating a repeatable model for implementing community food gardens city wide.
Nous avons eus notre cérémonie aux magnifiques Jardins Communautaires Woodpark, un projet pilote de jardin de ville alimentaire. Un modèle à répéter à grande échelle, afin de mettre en oeuvre d’autres jardins similaires.
Moe shared some kind words with us, she is a hardworking person and is very dedicated to the Ottawa community.

We brought our van into Speedy this morning for an oil change and Mike Dover, the owner, kindly did it free of charge. Here he is holding the Peace Torch in one hand and his blow torch in the other.

We set out on a run along the scenic Ottawa River Pathway.

There was a torrential downpour, so our shoes got quite wet!

We ran to Remic Rapids to see the incredible "inukshuk" stone sculptures made by John Felice Ceprano. These rocks are all meticulously balanced on top of one another using no other materials. They are solid enough to withstand many storms and seasons. The unique beauty of these sculptures attracts a lot of visitors each day.
Nous avons courus jusqu’au Rapides Remic pour voir les incroyables pierres sculptées «Inukshuk» par John Felice Ceprano. Ces pierres sont méticuleusement placées en équilibre les unes par dessus les autres sans aucun autre produit pour les relier. Elles sont suffisamment solides pour résister aux tempêtes et saisons. La beauté unique de ces sculptures attire plusieurs visiteurs chaque jour.
