Dingboche - Lobuche

Reported by Harita Davies, Preetidutta Thorpe 17.0 km

On our day off we had a practice walk/run on the switchback addition to the marathon route, up a valley behind Dingboche.

Meeting new friends at every turn!

We found a great cafe in Dingboche called Cafe Himalaya run by Tsering Sherpa and his family. Such an awesome place with artifacts of historic climbs of Everest. His grandfather was friends with Sir Edmund Hillary and had many great photographs around the walls. Thank you for the apple pie, hashbrown and great coffee! We left feeling amazing and loved to chat with Tsering Sherpa.

Inside Cafe Himalaya

Helmets, crampons, radios and Sir Ed's mug from the first summits of Everest.

Stunning morning sky from Dingboche

Dr. Alisha Thapa Chhetri and Dr. Isha Pandey, two very good young doctors in the local hospital of Dingboche helped us a lot with our ailments due to the altitude.
At this altitude even a small cold can create altitude symptoms and be the end of your journey thus far. The body needs 100% strength and health to have the best chance of coping with the altitude increase each day. These doctors told us no sleeping during the day and definitely no more showering due to the chance of catching a chill.

The multiple-time champion of the 60km Tenzing-Hillary Ultra race. This year he is running the 70km.

Our wonderful porters in their Peace Run t-shirts.

Great photo of all the team!

We were thrilled that our dear friends and organisers of the Pokhara Marathon, Tej and Beni Gurung, came to visit us and hold the torch! Tej Gurung is also Vice President of the Nepal Olympic Committee and advisor of the Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Tej Gurung and his wife Beni Gurung.

Thank you to Bright Star Lodge in Dingboche for a wonderful stay!

Heading towards Lobuche.

Our team with the iconic and magestic Ama Dablam behind.

Some people choose to ride by horseback up or down the mountain. Its a bumpy ride.

It was cold and slow going.

Prayer flags high above.

Rest stops were numerous.

I guess its safe to cross here?!

We met this great new friend, Pedro, from Portugal. He has reached the summit of Everest before and many other adventures, but this time it was the Everest Base Camp Marathon he was gunning for.

Sweta and Kami sherpas ;)

Reaching the memorial ground where stupas stand in honor of the many lives lost on Everest. It was extremely moving and surprisingly peaceful walking through.

Helicopters were very frequent bringing climbers down or gear from the climbing season. Many were also taking altitude sick people down to hospital in Kathmandu.

Some very excited trekkers who were so happy to hold the Peace torch and wish us well.

Arriving into Lobuche after a long and happy but challenging day.
