Oolagah, OK - Bristow, OK

Reported by Arpan DeAngelo 81.0 mi

We started our morning with a peaceful sunrise at Hawthorne Bluff overlooking Oolagah Lake.

The men's team ran in the morning towards Tulsa, Oklahoma.

We always meet some very enthusiastic people along our route who stop for us and share the torch.

A reporter from Sapulpa kndly came out to meet our runners there.

A stop sign for horses.

This horseman greeted us as we approached the Tulsa Boys Home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.

Ten very sensible principles in the hallway of the Boys Home.

We were welcomed by some of the staff there and fed by them as well. Mike Murphy, Program Director, (second from right) kindly arranged for our visit there as he has done for many years in the past.

Mike took the women's team on a golf cart to see their beautiful horses.

The horses are part of the curriculum for the boys.

Making new friends.

This young horse is only a few weeks old.

Vera, Chetana and Anna enjoy feeding one of the friendly horses.

We also were fed sumptuously by the staff of the Boys Home.

One of the very inspiring quotes on the walls of the auditorium.

Four New Yorkers far from home: Chetana (Team Member), Mike Murphy (Program Director), Gregory Conway (Executive Director), Arpan (Team Captain).

The hall was filled for our presentation.

We all introduced ourselves with a guessing game. The boys were able to guess everyone's country or city.

Mike Murphy and Gregory Conway graciously accept our Certificate of Appreciation and World Harmony painting by Sri Chinmoy, the Founder of the Peace Run.They have always been very kind to us in allowing us to enjoy this wonderful campus every time we come to the Tulsa area.

Another kind supportive staff member offers his wishes and goodwill.

This was our Certificate of Appreciation from our 2008 visit to the Boy's Home.

Sandro carts away the extra food and water that was kindly donated to us.

Our next run was with Mayor Mike Burdge of Sand Springs, O.K. He is also the track and cross-country coach at the high school.

Three of his freshman high school students who run track and cross-country also carried the torch with us. We had to slow them down a bit so we could keep up.

We had a two car police escort the whole three miles to City Hall.

We are very grateful to Mayor Burdge and his team, Melina, Nia and Cheyenne for running with us and offering their goodwill, inspiration, energy and kindness.

The women's team was on the road for the afternoon shift.

Our next stop in the afternoon was an exciting after-school program at the Key Elementary School in Tulsa.

Jacquie Kalley was so kind in arranging for our visit.

We were welcomed with beautiful signs made by the children.

The children were very excited about our arrival.

We offered our presentation by introducing ourselves with a guessing game as usual.

Sandro's clue was 'pasta and pizza'. Which country is he from?

The children sang our song with accompanying actions.

Feeling peace and joy in the heart.

Heartfelt peace.

Our skit demonstrated harmonious behaviour.

Some of the children judged our skits differently.

Suhasini from Bali has some new friends.

This boys was sad when Vera was pushed down as part of one of our skits.

These two girls wrote and sang a beautiful peace song together.

We are very grateful to Jacquie Kalley and the teachers and children for such a wonderful program and warm welcome.

Now for the fun, a peace run outside.

Vera runs with the children on the last full day her journey here with our team.

Most of the children got to pass the torch and run with it or with both.

Two of the youngest members of our new team.

Bashata, from Serbia, has fun with the kids.

Thank you Key Elementary After-school care program.

Afterwards we had some nice refreshments and enjoyed the display of beautiful artwork by the children.

Kayla made a lovely 3-D display.

Harita takes a photo of the women's team at dinner.

We are very grateful to our local coordinator, Sutusthi Lang, for treating us to a great Asian Fusion dinner in Tulsa.

Vera says goodbye on her last day here with us. She was a valuable member of our team from the start and we will miss her.

Please send us a message, we would LOVE to hear from you. See who is sending us messages.
