Spokane - Sandpoint

Reported by Hastakamala Diaz 58.0 mi

Early morning and the deer are around grazing.

Nesha from Best Western Plus in Spokane, who so kindly provided free accomodation -thank you Nesha and your friendly staff!

Today we crossed into Idaho.

Welcome back to the team Homagni.

Lighting the torch with the sun.

We met Dallas.

Steve helped us find a great place to swim in the river.

And what a spectacular place to cool off after running our miles.

Look carefully there's something in the tree.

Arriving into Sandpoint we meet this family who are at Pend Orielle to enjoy the sun and beach.

This peace pole was installed 30 years ago by David Sawyer, the former mayor of Sandpoint. David was a close friend of Kym's who died with dignity from ALS a few years ago. Kym takes a soulful moment in honor of David's lifelong work for peace.

Kym Woodruff first met the peace run in 1987 and many times since. Here he is wearing the shirt from '89 so we presented him with a new shirt. We all so grateful to have met up again to share our common aspiration for peace and friendship.

This is Barbara's bench. A place to sit and reflect as well as enjoy the beach on the lake Pend Oreille with stunning mountain views behind.

On Barbara's bench is a quote that was fitting to Barbara's commitment to the community.

Kym took us out on his yacht giving us all joy. The water was calm and and the sun was shinning as we slowly glided along enjoying the views and calm sea. Then suddenly it looked like a small isolated storm was coming so we motored back and disembarked just as the rain started to fall and the winds increased. It was a real adventure.

Kym takes us for a ride on his yacht. Preetidutta, who is an experienced sailer at the helm.
