Sines - Lagos

Reported by Patricio da Rocha, Tom McGuire 145.0 km

A perfect accommodation in Sines and an even better view. Again thank you to the city for hosting us so nicely!

Sines is the birth city of Vasco da Gama, one of Portugal's greatest sons.

We gathered in the morning in the ancient fortress. Mayor Mr. Nuno Mascarenhas awaited us, dressed up perfectly for running!

The Mayor lit the torch...

Attached to the castle is a museum about Vasco da Gama and the history of Sines.

..we got a great tour...

Finally we left Sines. The Mayor lead the way...

Thank you again for the great welcome!

As it was Sunday we spent most of the day running. The beautiful coastline of Portugal made it extremely easy for us to cover the distance...

...an unexpected obstacle: one of our vans got stuck in the extremely soft sand. But with united force we managed to free the van in no time...

...we reached the beach of Porto Covo.

The city representative welcomed us....

...a beautiful, peaceful town; the population in summer multiplies by 6 - 10!!!

...the last steps...

...a group picture was taken and off we went...

...from the beach into the green forests. Eucalyptus dominates the forests in Portugal....

Eszter doing her daily mileage...

We reached Vila Nova de Milfontes.

The city representative gave us a warm welcome.

Vila Nova de Milfontes is, like most cities along the coast, a paradise for watersports.

Thank you Vila Nova de Milfontes!

A barefoot runner joined in....

Our last meeting of the day: São Teotónio.

It is really inspiring when kids meet us - even if it is Sunday afternoon....

Thank you São Teotónio for the hospitality!
We finally reached Lagos and enjoyed a good nights rest after a long running day....
