Nuuk

Reported by Harita Davies, Laufey Haraldsdottir, Suren Suballabhason 10.0 km

After the recent snowfall the route was a little technically challenging but unimaginably spectacular!

As you can see, the scenery was breathtaking (and so was the running!).

It felt like being in an adventure wonderland.

We then hurried to Katuaq, Nuuk's culture house, for a Peace Run Torch-Bearer Award Ceremony, followed by a 2.25 km fun run.

We were so happy to reunite with our sweet friend, Lea, who we were so grateful to meet when we first arrived in Nuuk as she was super helpful.

It was a family affair :)

Mange familier mødte op :)

We gave our Peace Run presentation to a gathering of enthusiastic listeners.

We all took a moment to feel peace in our hearts and share our hopes and dreams for peace in Greenland and the world.

Then it was on to the Torch Bearer Awards. Our first awardee was Aviaja Egede Lynge.

Aviaja is an intelligent and an educated person, who at the same time has a beautiful warm heart. She has impressed people in Greenland through her work as the National Spokesperson for children. Her enthusiasm and care for children and the right of all children, irrespective of background, to have equal opportunities, to be themselves, and to an education shines through her work.
Aviaja has been an inspiration to the people of Nuuk and a role-model for young people.

The second awardee was Kim Godtfredsen.

Den anden var Kim Godtfredsen.

Kim is a great runner who has been a positive role-model for young people for many years in Greenland. Kim has used his good reputation and his love and knowledge of sports and outdoor activities to found a project for young people called Timi Asimi.
The aim of Timi Asimi is to enable and inspire young people to grow in their own way through connecting to sports and nature.

Participants have responded very enthusiastically to Timi Asimi, saying it has enabled them to be better focused, improve their social skills, connect more to nature and give up bad habits.

Nuuk is a small place, so of course Kim and Aviaja have known each other for many years.

Nuuk er en lille by, so Kim og Aviaja har kendt hinanden i mange år!

Then it was time to run! Aviaja and Kim led the way.

Så blev det tid til at løbe! Aviaja og Kim løb forrest!

On the way we passed by a local wedding. These girls were in the traditional Greenlandic dress.

There was a sweet family feeling with everyone who joined.

We have made so many wonderful new friends in Greenland!!

And then we arrived happily back at the culture centre!

Vi kom godt frem til Kulturhuset!

Our friends Claus, Charlotte and Niels, from the NSP sports club came and joined us for the fun run.

Vores venner Claus, Charlotte og Niels from the NSP sportsklub kom og løb sammen med os.

Aviaja gave all of us buffs from her office...

Aviaja gav os alle huer fra sit kontoer...

..... og dette lille lykkedyr...

...and then she invited us to a party in her house! She had an open house for her family today to celebrate her Torch Bearer Award.

It was a very entertaining evening. Laufey got to try the traditional dress (here assisted by Aviaja's sister).

Then Prapti got to try it. The patterning is incredibly intricate and takes years to make! They are usually made specifically to fit, and passed down from generation to generation.

This was once a Polar Bear!

En Isbjørn!

And Suren got to try the Anorak and boots of Jenseeraq, Aviaja's partner.

Finally the sun set after another deeply heart-felt day in Nuuk.

Guess what! Yet another amazing night of northern lights!
