Freyberg Pools - Peace Capital plaque, Cuba Mall

Reported by Daniel Rubin 5.0 km

The Peace Run team gets ready to run ! The occasion is the 25th anniversary dedication of the Sri Chinmoy Capital City Plaque in Cuba Mall. Co-incidentally it is the United Nations World Peace Day!

Get your sealegs on - it's a run along Wellington's famously windy foreshore.

Michael Algar is Chief of Staff and enthusiastically supports this peace initiative. He and Mayor Andy Foster and Deputy Mayor Sarah Free walked down from the Mayor's office to greet us.

Mayor Andy Foster joined the team to mark the 25th anniversary when past Wellington Mayor Mark Blumsky inaugurated this plaque which links Wellington with 800 places, parks and structures as part of the Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossoms program.
Andy remarked that he reflected on the significance of the program's name when he was captivated by Spring cherry blossoms in a parkland recently. These "peace blossoms" are focal points for peace and connect the world in a special way.

The Peace Run proudly acknowledges Mayor Andy's long term and genuine love of peace, with the Peace Torch medallion award.
On four occasions he has spoken eloquently about Wellington's ongoing commitment to peace. Andy is a fine runner and once led the Peace Run team through the nooks and crannies of Wellington city culminating at the magical Zealandia (Karori Bird Sanctuary) of which he is a Guardian. Here he is with Mere Fiore, Wellington Interfaith Council Chairperson.
