On November 4, 2023, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run Torch-Bearer Ceremony took place at the Seattle Centre bringing together local community leaders in a day of celebration of our diversity and oneness in spirit.
Dr. Agraha Levine welcomed everyone to the ceremony.
Members of the Seattle Centre sang the Peace Run song led by Aparajita Fishman.
Seattle Centre Leader Nayak Polissar got the ceremony started by introducing the first award recipient.
Mr. Brandon Hershey President of the Seattle Public School Board accepts the award. Mr. Hershey is an educator who works tirelessly to provide excellence in education and opportunities for every student.
Nayak introduces Dean Hilary Godwin, Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. The School of Public Health educates health care leaders to promote health equity and social justice to make a difference in their community.
Ms. Kitty Gregerson from the Daybreak Star Cultural Centre and the United Indians of All Tribes foundation, a social service provider, community centre and cultural home for urban Natives.
Daulot Fountain introduces Wilmer Galindo representing the Wing Luke Museum. The Wing Luke museum aspires to connect everyone to the history and culture of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific islanders to advance racial and social equity.
Dr. Agraha Levine introduces Mr. Delbert Richardson, the founder and curator of the American History Traveling Museum: The Unspoken Truths. The museum strives to re-educate learners on African American history and contributions in a manner that leads to self-restoration and community healing.
Agraha introduces Theresa Carter-Vincent, CEO of Brave Young People. BRAVE - Building Resilience Awareness & Variations of Excellence. Brave strives to equip people of color with core competencies and reshape their communities into spaces that provide equitable opportunities.
Last but not least, the Seattle Chinese Community Girls Drill Team was recognized. The drill team was founded in 1952 as a good-will organization that encourages young girls to learn teamwork, leadership skills and Chinese Cultural History.
Next we were treated to a demonstration - the Seattle Chinese Community Girls Drill Team in action!!!
