the morning-fog gave the monastery an almost mystical touch...
Today was our last day in Italy and what better way to celebrate than Peace Run in schools?
We went into the first primary school:
...a nice welcome...
Thank you for the great meeting!
A gorgeous view over the hills near Matera....
In the second school we met old friends: we have been here 4 years ago...
...all the kids lined up in the hallway...
...and drawings about peace decorated the walls...
Francesco, our newest team member...
High five
...the stage was set...
Also the teachers want stamps!
...the children sang for us...
...and offered us their drawings. Thank you for the perfect meeting!
And our last school in Matera:
...the school is run by nuns...
...very enthusiastic kids...
...a new place for a continent stamp....
Who will get the torch?
We have a winner...
Thank you for all the enthusiasm!
...it happened to be Francesco's birthday, so the kids sang for him...
what a sky!
A "trullo" is a cone-shaped stone house - very much spread in the region of South Italy...
Cisternino welcomes the Peace Run - our last meeting place in Italy for this year! Kids were lined up as our team entered the city...
...young athletes joined us on a short run around the old town...
...arrival at the meeting place...
..the school orchestra performed well...
...and the hall was packed...
The mayor and the mini-mayor welcomed our team...
A ninety-year old marathon runner!
...and it was time for photo shooting with the torch!
Sunset in Italy - we will miss it!
Our day was not finished: our new friends from the Sai Baba peace village near Cisternino invited us to their temple - a modified trullo...
What better way to celebrate than to plant a peace tree together!
Thank tou for organising the great meeting!
A perfect ending for the Peace Run 2014 in Italy! Our deepest gratitude for all the smiles, meetings and the incredible hospitality!
