Enzo Moavero Milanesi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, guest of honor to represent the Italian government to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Sant'Anna di Stazzema massacre with the Peace Run torch. The intervention emphasized the importance of the European Union as a tool for the prevention of wars and conflicts:
"We unfortunately see that there are war situations also near Italy. We must preserve peace, preserve the organizations and institutions that guarantee peace: the United Nations and the European Union itself".
