Calais, ME - Bangor, ME

What a great start for the day! The wonderful people of Calais, ME received the Peace Runners in front of the Visitor's Center on a sunny morning just 100 meters from the US-Canadian border. Mike Carmody of the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce had a gift for us:

A framed document in appreciation for our visit to Calais! Thank you so much!

Many locals joined in to celebrated peace.

Banshidhar, from Hawaii, told the story of four months of running around North America.

Runners sang the Peace Run Song, composed by the Founder of the Run, Sri Chinmoy.

There was a tangible, silent and sacred atmosphere when people held and passed the Torch, as they brought to the fore their own highest aspirations for peace.

This local reporter expressed her happines for the emphasis the Peace Run puts on young children!

A member of the Wabanaki people welcomed us on behalf of his ancestors to this land. We were so honoured!

Thank you to everyone in Calais for your warm welcome this morning! We hope to see you again some time!

Sadhiman hits the road.

How would we manage the Peace Run without our "Charcoal" Van! (the name used by runners to refer to this vehicle) When one person starts running, the van drives ahead to wait for that person on the side of the road. Meanwhile another team member gets out onto the shoulder and starts their leg of miles. In this way we take turns and, as ateam of 12, cover aproximately 80-90 miles each day, carrying the Torch.

There are many priviliges a Peace Run RV has to offer.

One is being a mobile kitchen and a base for a small group of the team to cook lunch for everyone else while the rest of the group runs miles on the byways.

Nastya is all happines during the morning run.

Welcome back! Our New Zealand Team Captain, Harita, is on the road again!

Mother nature provided a fresh snack.

Sadhiman is considering a second cereer in agriculture.

Welcome Marco from Italy! He was blazing down the road like a Ferrari today!

In the afternoon we met with a lively group of campers in Hayford Park in Bangor.

Kids learned actions and lyrics to the World-Harmony-Run Song, also composed by the Founder, Sri Chinmoy.

For a few seconds the campers concentrated in silence on their own hearts to feel peaceful qualities within themselves.

Every child held the lit torch while making a wish for Peace.

Saranyu from Australia gave an interview for the camera.

Hayford Park was a great place to run a round with the Torch!

Thank you everyone, especially Tim, Kim and Carli, for spending the afternoon together. It was so much fun!

A very big thank you to the Black Bear Inn & Conference Center for hosting the men's team. We loved every moment in your beautiful hotel.
