The year 2024 also saw the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run actively participating in the celebrations of the UN International Day of Peace.
On the occasion of the International Day of Peace proclaimed by the United Nations, together with the association Colors for Peace, the Peace Run organized an institutional ceremony at Esperienza Europa, the Italian headquarters of the European Parliament in Rome.
The event was attended by authorities from various European nations, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from the world of culture and education, and, of course, students who participated in the Peace Drawings project, including a delegation from Lerici accompanied by the Mayor and the Cultural Affairs Councillor.
For the occasion, a selection of peace drawings created by children from 148 nations was exhibited in the prestigious European Parliament headquarters named after the late President David Sassoli.
The ceremony began with the screening of videos recounting the history of the initiatives carried out by the organizing associations, followed by an emotional performance of the English version of the European Anthem. The melody of the anthem is derived from the Ninth Symphony composed in 1823 by Ludwig van Beethoven, who set to music the “Ode to Joy” written by Friedrich von Schiller in 1785. The very young Romanian singer Laura Ion performed the anthem a cappella, moving the participants and creating the perfect atmosphere for the ceremony of passing the Peace Torch among the present authorities.
This was followed by the screening of a peace spot in which Italian athletes, medal winners at the Paris Olympics, recited the motto coined by the founder of the Peace Run, Sri Chinmoy: “Peace begins with me!”
The morning program concluded with the presentation of the Peace Run relay program for the UN International Day of Peace 2024, which takes place in Abruzzo from Sulmona to Lanciano.
The celebration of the International Day of Peace continued in the afternoon with the inauguration of the Colors of Peace exhibition at the Colosseum Archaeological Park, where seven hundred peace drawings created by children from 148 nations were displayed.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by the President of the City Council of Rome, Dr. Svetlana Celli, architect Barbara Nazzaro representing the Colosseum Archaeological Park, His Excellency Abdulla Ali AlSubousii, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, and representatives of Peace Run and Colors for Peace.
The Peace Torch was then passed to athletes from the Italian Federation of Roller Sports, who skated with it to the venue of the World Skate Games on Colle Oppio.
In occasione della Giornata Internazionale della Pace proclamata dalle Nazioni Unite, insieme all’associazione Colors for Peace, la Peace Run ha organizzato una cerimonia istituzionale presso Esperienza Europa, la sede italiana del Parlamento Europeo a Roma.
L’evento ha visto la partecipazione di autorità provenienti da diverse nazioni europee, membri del corpo diplomatico, rappresentanti del mondo della cultura e dell’istruzione e, naturalmente, degli studenti che hanno partecipato al progetto Disegni di Pace, inclusa una delegazione da Lerici accompagnata dal Sindaco e dall’Assessore alla Cultura.
Per l’occasione, una selezione di disegni per la pace realizzati da bambini di 148 nazioni è stata esposta nella prestigiosa sede del Parlamento Europeo intitolata al compianto Presidente David Sassoli.
La cerimonia è iniziata con la proiezione di video che raccontavano la storia delle iniziative realizzate dalle associazioni organizzatrici, seguita da un’emozionante esecuzione della versione in inglese dell’Inno Europeo.
La melodia dell’inno è tratta dalla Nona Sinfonia composta nel 1823 da Ludwig van Beethoven, che ha messo in musica l’“Inno alla Gioia” scritto da Friedrich von Schiller nel 1785. La giovanissima cantante rumena Laura Ion ha eseguito l’inno a cappella, commuovendo i partecipanti e creando l’atmosfera perfetta per la cerimonia del passaggio della Fiaccola della Pace tra le autorità presenti.
A seguire, è stato proiettato uno spot per la pace in cui atleti italiani, vincitori di medaglie alle Olimpiadi di Parigi, hanno recitato il motto coniato dal fondatore della Peace Run, Sri Chinmoy: “La pace inizia da me!”.
Il programma della mattinata si é cconcluso con la presentazione del programma della staffetta Peace Run per la UN International Day of Peace 2024 che si svolge in Abruzzo da Sulmona a Lanciano.
La celebrazione della Giornata Internazionale della Pace è continuata nel pomeriggio con l’inaugurazione della mostra Colors of Peace presso il Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, dove sono stati esposti settecento disegni di pace realizzati da bambini di 148 nazioni.
Alla cerimonia di inaugurazione hanno partecipato la Presidente del Consiglio Comunale di Roma, la dottoressa Svetlana Celli, l’architetto Barbara Nazzaro in rappresentanza del Parco Archeologico del Colosseo, Sua Eccellenza Abdulla Ali AlSubousii, Ambasciatore degli Emirati Arabi Uniti, e i rappresentanti di Peace Run e Colors for Peace.
La Fiaccola della Pace è stata poi passata agli atleti della Federazione Italiana Sport Rotellistici, che l’hanno portata pattinando fino alla sede dei World Skate Games sul Colle Oppio.
