Guimarães - Peso da Régua

Reported by Dipavajan Renner 80.0 km

Good morning Guimarães!
After a good night's rest we continued with meetings in the birthplace of the Portuguese nation. A delicious cake as a starter sweetened the day for us...

We reached the primary school "Escola Básica de Motelo" in Guimarães. Children and parents together prepared peace drawings...

...an excellent choir welcomed us...

Peace can be felt in the heart...

Children, teachers and parents: all offered a wish for Peace...

Thank you for the enthusiastic welcome!

Next was a visit to the football club of Vitoria de Guimarães. Neno, himself a famous former Portuguese player, gave us the "Grand Tour"!

...we met the team on the field...

...a brief presentation...

...and the players passed the torch...

...a final group picture...

...the coach, Sergio Conceição, a former famous Portuguese player, received the torch...

Good luck for the championship!

It was time to say good bye to Guimarães...

Our next stop was Felgueiras, a lovely city located in the hills...

The greeting committee of the "Centro escolar de Margaride" in Felgueiras....

...big smiles everywhere...

Devarupi, our Polish runner, got lots of new friends...

....despite the heavy rain the kids lined up to give us a nice fare well. Thank you for the friendship!

...we went on to the second school in Felgueiras: "EB1 Felgueiras nr. 2".

A sea of torches welcomed our team! It is really nice to see how well all the schools prepare for the Peace Run and how serious the children take the event!

The torches came handy for the actions in our song...

Thank you for the heartfelt meeting!

...we proceeded to the city hall...

The mayor and the deputy mayor of Felgueiras welcomed our team and received the torch.

Thank you for the kind words!

It was time to say good bye to Felgueiras....

...as we approached Peso da Régua we had to climb the "mountains". Snow was awaiting us.

New friends...

Well, "mountains" are something relative. In the Alps this wouldn't even pass for a small hill, but in Portugal it's a big thing, especially when there is a bit snow around.
Anyway, our runners enjoyed running in the "waist-deep" snow, as the police put it...

The fire brigade and the police closed the road, but the Peace Run was allowed to pass!

Sucessfully we left the "heavy" winter conditions behind and reached Peso da Régua, our today's destination.

A delicious dinner in Peso da Régua ended our day!
