Reykir - Hólmavík

Reported by Salil Wilson 153.0 km

Everyone gets their day in the sun...and today we got ours. Suchitra rejoices in the warm weather.

Karolina happily gets ready for a run in the sun.

Just as our team finised the allotted miles for the day a car stopped by ours and out came a wonderful family of Hungarians living in Switzerland. They were very excited to hear about what we were doing and the lady, maybe in her 70s, started running with the torch! She was amazing and we were all inspired by her enthusiasm.

Suchitra, one of the members of our team, is also from Hungary. Everyone was happy to meet fellow Hungarians and to speak with each other in Hungarian.

A photo of all the Hungarians together.

As you can see today was absolutely glorious weather.

Everytime Danival ran it seemed he was going up an enormous hill.

Suren contemplates the view.

Salil was delighted to see the sun again.

Apaguha got his team started this morning.

This sign says the birds are nesting. Particularly Artic Turns who like to swoop any runner that just might be happening by.

The sheep keep an eye on things out here.

Pranavar refills our new lightweight torch.

Caution steep downhill ahead.

The winding road ahead is all downhill.

At the outskirts of Holmavik we met with some of the local runners.

Jóhanna Rósmundsdóttir og Ingibjörg Emilsdóttir ran with us 12 km to Hólmavík.

Kolbrún Þorsteinsdóttir and Jóhanna Rósmundsdóttir keeping up a very good pace.

Ingibjörg in the greenish shirt is doing the Reykjavík marathon in August.

Karolina met with a young girl who ran with us in Reykjavik. As you can see from the big hug she was delighted to be reacquainted with Karolina.

The last few step towards City Hall.

Pranava introduces the Run.

The home of the Peace Tree is right on the shore of the fjord.

Mayor Andrea Kristín Jónsdóttir plants the peace tree with the future mayor maybe?

Everyone put a little soil on the new tree.

Mayor Andrea Kristín Jónsdóttir very kindly bought dinner for the team.

Making a wish for peace.

The whole group.

Pranava and Suren present Mayor Andrea Kristín Jónsdóttir with a certificate of appreciation.

Danival has very knidly provided his car for the entire Peace Run ö thanks very much.

The beautiful churches seemingly situated in the middle of nowhere look postcard perfect.

An ethusiastic group of Danes wanted to offer their support to our round the island of Icleand relay.

Laufey got our second girls team off to an excellent start.

Then Neelabha made sure we kept on pace.

Gautami finished off with her run into town

Here we met a lot of enthusiastic children.

It always fills us with joy to be met by children along the road and to run into their lovely village of Drangsnes.

We planted a Peace Tree and everyone lent a hand. With a population of 70 over one third of the population was on hand to welcome us.

We learned the actions to the World Harmony Run song.

We passed the torch around and everyone made a wish for peace.

Then we visited some wonderfully rejuvenating hot springs and continued sharing the torch.

Gautami was so taken with the beauty of the fjord she swam out to a small island to celebrate.

See we told you it was beautiful.

Gautami and Laufey finished the remaining miles with a smile.
