Verona - Vicenza

Reported by Sumandala Cenni 70.0 km

Good morning Italy! We ran from San Bonifacio to the city of Vicenza, where we met with our local coordinator...

Our thirst meeting was at the "Peace Mile", where we were warmly welcomed by Ms. Isabella Sala, "Assessore alla comunità e alle famiglie" (City representative for the community and family).
The Peace Mile was inaugurated 30 years ago on the occasion of the very first edition of the Peace Run. This photo is somehow "historical" for the Peace Run. In fact both Mr. Matteo Soccio, director of the association "Casa per la Pace" and our two local coordinators in the photo took part in that ceremony 30 years ago.

The "Peace Mile" is located in the gorgeous city park "Parco Querini"...

Ms. Isabella Sala received the Peace Torch...

...and ran a few steps along the "Peace Mile"!

...running through Vicenza...

...the city centre...

...the local police did an excellent job!

Our second meeting was at the secondary school "Maffei". Mr. Federico Formisano, President of the City Council, welcomed us in the "Aula Magna" - the conference hall of the school.

...we presented the Run to the students...

Thank you "Maffei" for welcoming the Peace Run!

Our next and final meeting in Vicenza was at the primary school "Vittorino da Feltre"...

...peace can be felt in the heart...

Once more Ms. Sala joined us at the school. She addressed the kids very nicely and passed the flaming torch to the children...

...getting ready for the "stampede"...

Thank you "Vittorino da Feltre" for the enthusiastic welcome!

...we passed the original Monticello - Villa, built by the great architect Palladio. The Villa inspired Thomas Jefferson to build his famous residence in Virginia, US...

...as we arrived in Padua, we were welcomed by a group of runners, lead by 77-year old local record holder Giuliano Calore...

Thank you for helping us!

We reached the University of Padua. Inaugurated in the year 1222, the University is one of the oldest in the world!

Our first meeting in Padua was at the "Palazzo del Bo" - the historic University. We were received by provost Professore Antonio Parbonetti.

...a group of students sang for us...

Thank you for welcoming the Peace Run!

Padua was the first University in the world who taught students regardless of their religion, heritage or gender...

The most famous son of the university - Galileo Galilei. He was teaching for 18 years in Padua.

...a great tour through the historic halls...

Eszter and her Hungarian ancestors...

Our final meeting of the day was at the "Franceschini" stadium, where we met with many young athletes, associated with the Fidal (the Italian Athletics Federation)...

...one lap for peace!

Thank you Fidal for receiving the torch!
