Wellington

Reported by Daniel Rubin

Wellington Round the Bays is organised by a community and sports-focused group, Nuku Ora. It's an iconic event with distances up to the half marathon and showcases Wellington's iconic bays.

At the finish line the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run Team share the journey of the torch through the capital city. This is a rendition of the Peace Run song on the stage.

The runners introduce their representitive countries. Pictured are Harita Davies(USA now, originally NZ) and Preetidutta Thorpe (NZ).

Nuku Ora have wonderful volunteers that make the event happen.

Some of the wonderful, selfless volunteers which can make a community event like Round the Bays a huge success.

Finishers relaxing in the presentation area hold the torch and make wishes for a peaceful world.

The future generations are the ones who will be the change.

Nathan Tse took out first place in the 10km in a blistering 31:14.

This gentleman from USA has entered some of the Sri Chinmoy Marathon events in New York. Standing to his left is Harita Davies, New York resident and four times finisher of the longest certified race in the world, the 3100 Mile Race held in Queens.

Kumiko Otani won the women's half marathon in a speedy 1:22. She is flanked by new friends from her homeland, Japanese nationals Harashita and Yoko.

Cullern Thorby holds the torch with the Peace Run team. He won the half marathon in 1:08!

The development squad of Nuku Ora is dubbed Run and Become. Incidentally it is the slogan the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team adopted at its origin in the early days of the American jogging boom. Here are some Nuku Ora squad members with that inspiring slogan.

Sister and brother, Sarah and Isaac Murphy won the 5.5km race.

Here is the ever smiling Nathan again, absorbing the sunshine and success of his win.

Young pretenders to smiling endeavours.

Kumiko dons the Peace Run uniform and is up and running again! She is our newest team member.

Some R & R on the bays - giving the legs a change from the tarmac Yoko and Roxana go for a shake-down.

The team members proudly acknowledge the vehicle sponsor, Auckland City Toyota. Thanks for this amazing 10 seater Hi-Ace!

Fiona Hayvice, our local Wellington team member, is soon on her way to representing NZ at the World Cup trail competition.

While out on a break we came across the spectacular and awe-inspiring street show HeroMacro. Caslav, the tall Peace Runner from Bosnia "volunteered" and had a fun role to play in the show, on Wellington's waterfront. Hiroshi, while performing a gravity-defying stunt, commented that through humour and entertainement the show is about uniting people from all races and cultures and that we are all one humanity. Thanks for the inspiration Hiroshi and Masako!
