Bhaktapur - Kathmandu

Reported by Devashishu Torpy 20.0 km

The Deputy Mayor of Bhaktapur, Ms Rajani Joshi, welcomes the Peace Run back to Nepal.

The opening ceremony takes place up in the hills that surround Kathmandu, at the site of this Peace Statue.

The Deputy Mayor welcomes runners from 12 different countries.

Ms Rajani Joshi lights the Peace Torch in front of the statue of the founder of the Peace Run, Sri Chinmoy.

In 1994 Sri Chinmoy was at this site to dedicate a Mountain to Peace in his name.

Zakir is our runner from Bangladesh.

The Deputy Mayor meets Ashrita Furman, the Guiness Record Holder for having the most Guiness records.

Today he is attempting a new World Record.

His colleague, Homagni Baptista, throws grapes and Ashrita has to slice them in two with his samurai sword while standing on a Swiss Ball.

The record is for the most grapes sliced in one minute.

Ashrita breaks the record, 38 grapes sliced in one minute. Ms Rajani Joshi is delighted that the record has been broken in her beautiful corner of the world.

In Kathmandu we run into the Ace School.

The students carry the torch into the school grounds.

Other students are waiting for us with their messages and illustrations of Peace

Each runner receives a sacred scarf and a flower.

A wonderful and inspiring speech on Peace is given by 15 year old Bhoomi Parajuli.

The Head Teacher receives a gift from the Peace Run for her gracious welcome to the school.

The students present a dance on the theme of Peace.

The runners are invited to write a message and sign this beautiful piece of Art created by the students.

Our Nepalese coordinator Sweta, holds the torch with her brother Sugandha.

Homagni asks the students about the snacks they get at school.

Sweta and Sugandha's mother holds the torch.

Salil, the Executive Director of the Peace Run, celebrates his birthday.
