Duvauchelle Bay - Okains Bay

Reported by Daniel Rubin 10.0 km

Christchurch City’s Avon River; Christchurch City is on the Canterbury Plains at the foot of Banks Peninsula.

Akaroa Harbour is part of Banks Peninsula in the Canterbury region of New Zealand.

The peaceful setting of Duvauchelle Bay is nestled into the head of Akaroa Harbour.

The team introduce the Peace Run to Duvauchelle School students and teachers.

Running and singing are two easy ways to participate in the Peace Run. Here the children demonstrate that with aplomb, singing the "World Harmony Run" song.

Some of the team perform a skit (a short play) to demonstrate what is not peaceful behaviour.

The students rightly give the thumbs down as Vera exalts in winning a staged race very unfairly.

Here a team member, Nishima, is in trouble and her friends come to her aid.

Peaceful actions get the thumbs up from the students.

"What does peace mean to you?" Great answers such as "calm", "happy" and "love" are offered by the students.

Aitana receives a colourful painting on the theme of peace to remember the Peace Run by. The Peace Run founder Sri Chinmoy painted artwork with titles such as "Word Harmony". They have been exhibited in famous places including The Louvre in Paris and Le Guardia Airport, New York. Evie has a certificate of appreciation from the team, commemorating the visit.

Some of the students demonstrate their running style getting ready to run with the Peace Torch.

The students share the torch around - great demonstration of "oneness" and teamwork.

The Peace Run team were invited to talk to the Duvauchelle preschool children just across the road when one of the preschool teacher's saw us leaving the Duvauchelle school.

The students sang and taught us this song.

Students receive some artwork on the theme of peace. We know that children love expressing their feelings through art and hope this inspires them.

It's sometimes nice to feel the warmth of the flame! When you pass the torch to someone else you are sharing your hopes and dreams for a better world.

Running always brings a smile to our faces. Children love running!

This is a great exercise in sharing.

Jade is thrilled by the experience of carrying the torch. She was instrumental in bringing the team to Okains Bay School. In this beautiful environment the sea and mountains are always within walking distance.
