Our opening ceremony in Dhaka, Bangladesh, took part in this very auspicious park called Suhrawawdy Udyan, which also has an underground Museum of Independence.
Just North of the the Museum of Independence in the Northern end of Suhrawardy Udyan is the Eternal Flame, symbolizing the eternity of Bangladesh nationalism.
The Independence Museum was opened on March 15, 2015 on 45th Independence Day of Bangladesh.

Among our many distinguished guests were the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, AK Abdul Momen (red scarf), Rezwana Choudhury Bannya who is a Bangladeshi singer and academic. She is an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet, the songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore. She is regarded as a legendary Tagore singer by Tagore music aficionados. Next to her holding the Peace Torch is Abdul Rakib Mantu, General Secretary of the B.A.F., Bengladeshi Athletic Federation.

He is also the composer of the Bangladeshi National Anthem.

Rikesh, a young boy of 11 years, carries the torch with his father, Rimon, behind him, (to his right or our left). Rimon's family are distance cousins of Sri Chinmoy and still have a house in the village where Sri Chinmoy, the Founder of the Peace Run, was born in 1931.

Our next destination was Buriganga Eco Park along the famous Buriganga River. It is the largest open space park in the whole capital city of Dhaka. The Buriganga River is one of 8 rivers in Bangladesh dedicated to world peace, as a Sri Chinmoy Peace -Blossom since 27 August, 2000.

This local river which runs along the edge of Eco Park is called the Buriganga (Old Ganges) and flows about 18km through the southwest Dhaka area of Bangladesh. It is important for transportation of many industrial products.

Mahatapa, hailing from the U.S.A., originally from India, introduces the Peace Run Torch-Bearer Award in both Bangla and English languages. Shantishri(center) is our main Peace Run coordinator in Bangladesh. On the left is H.E. Haji Haris Otheman, High Commissioner of Brunei, who will do the honors of presenting the awards.

The next awardee was Prof. Dr. Abu Nasir Rizvi. He is a Neurologist in Dhaka. His qualification is MBBS, MD (Neurology). He is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. He regularly provides treatment to his patients at Comfort Diagnostic Center, Dhanmondi.

Next Awardee is Mohammed Masbah Amed. In 2016 he was Bangladesh's 'Fastest Man'. He is also an Olympian in the 100m, 200m, and triple jump. Mesbah Ahmed earned the honor by clinching the gold medal of the men's 100-meter sprint with a timing of 10.43 seconds.

Nishat Majumdur receives the Award as an accomplished mountain climber. She is the first Bangladeshi woman to cimb Mt. Everest and the third Bangladeshi person overall to summit the world's highest mountain peak, which she did in May of 2012.

Sabrina Sultana receives the Award as an Olympian and Commonwealth Games sportswoman. She is is a Bangladeshi sport shooter. She competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the women's 50 metre rifle three positions .

Next Awardee is Alamgir Alam. He is a well known Bangladeshi Naturopathic Doctor who specializes in Acupressure and other forms of natural healing.

Abdul Rokib Mantu receives the Award as the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Athletic Federation, which organizes and coordinates many sports activities in Bangladesh. Encouraging the youth through organized sports is a tremendous contribution to a better and more peaceful society.
আবদুল রকিব মান্টু বাংলাদেশ অ্যাথলেটিক ফেডারেশনের সাধারণ সম্পাদক হিসেবে পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন, যেটি বাংলাদেশে অনেক ক্রীড়া কার্যক্রমের আয়োজন ও সমন্বয় করে। সংগঠিত খেলাধুলার মাধ্যমে যুবকদের উত্সাহিত করা একটি ভাল এবং আরও শান্তিপূর্ণ সমাজের জন্য একটি অসাধারণ অবদান।
Our last Awardee was the ever energetic and enthusiastic Kabeer Khan. He is a 70 year old marathoner and entrepreneur. He had just completed a half-marathon this morning and then ran with our Peace Run team about another 10K to Eco Park. His youthful enthusiiasm and energy inspires all those he comes into contact with whether it is through running or business.
আমাদের শেষ পুরষ্কারপ্রাপ্ত ছিলেন সর্বদা উদ্যমী এবং উত্সাহী কবির খান। তিনি একজন ৭০ বছর বয়সী ম্যারাথনার এবং উদ্যোক্তা। তিনি আজ সকালে মাত্র একটি হাফ-ম্যারাথন সম্পন্ন করেছেন এবং তারপর আমাদের পিস রান টিমের সাথে প্রায় ১০কিমি ইকো পার্কে দৌড়েছেন৷ তার যৌবনের উদ্যম এবং শক্তি তাদের সকলকে অনুপ্রাণিত করে যাদের সাথে তিনি যোগাযোগ করেন তা দৌড় বা ব্যবসার মাধ্যমেই হোক।
We are all very grateful to all of the Awardees of the Peace Run Torch-Bearer Award. Their achievements and inspiration in so many fields of endeavour have truly made a significant positive change in their communities and in the world at large. Their attendance here tonight was a major contribution to the Peace Run that will inspire us throughout our future events here.
