Our first school of the day was the St. Joseph Higher Secondary School in Dhaka. We had the honors of running in with the Principal, Brother Leo Pereira, as he proudly carries the Peace Torch, and Vice Principal, Brother Bikash. We were amazed as we entered the huge schoolyard with 2700 students waiting eagerly and in a very orderly fashion.
আমাদের দিনের প্রথম স্কুল ছিল ঢাকার সেন্ট জোসেফ উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়। আমরা প্রিন্সিপাল ব্রাদার লিও পেরেরার সাথে দৌড়ানোর সম্মান পেয়েছিলাম। তিনি ও ভাইস প্রিন্সিপাল,ব্রাদার বিকাশ গর্বিতভাবে শান্তি মশাল বহন করেন। ২৭০০ জন শিক্ষার্থী অধীর আগ্রহে এবং খুব সুশৃঙ্খল ফ্যাশনে অপেক্ষা করে বিশাল স্কুল প্রাঙ্গণে প্রবেশ করে আমরা বিস্মিত হয়েছিলাম।

There were so many students that we unfortunately had no time to pass the Peace Torch around. We just had enough time to introduce ourselves and speak a bit about the Peace Run in general, then to sing our Peace Run song and do a little meditation on peace in the heart. Even though it was short and they had to dismiss for class, it was truly an impressive and inspiring experience to have the whole school come out to greet us here today. We are so grateful to the staff who organized the students and allowed us to offer our presentation to them.
সেখানে অনেক ছাত্র ছিল যে দুর্ভাগ্যবশত শান্তি মশাল পাড়ি দেওয়ার সময় আমাদের কাছে ছিল না। আমাদের কাছে নিজেকে পরিচয় করিয়ে দেওয়ার এবং সাধারণভাবে পিস রান সম্পর্কে কিছুটা বলার, তারপর আমাদের পিস রান গানটি গাইতে এবং হৃদয়ে শান্তির উপর একটু ধ্যান করার জন্য যথেষ্ট সময় ছিল৷ যদিও এটি সংক্ষিপ্ত ছিল এবং এ জন্য তাদের ক্লাস বরখাস্ত করতে হয়েছিল। এটি সত্যিই একটি চিত্তাকর্ষক এবং অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ক অভিজ্ঞতা ছিল যে আজ এখানে আমাদের অভ্যর্থনা জানাতে পুরো স্কুল বেরিয়ে এসেছে। আমরা সেই কর্মীদের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞ যারা ছাত্রদের সংগঠিত করেছে এবং তাদের কাছে আমাদের উপস্থাপনা অফার করার অনুমতি দিয়েছে।

Principal Md. Akmal Hossain then kindly offered his latest book to our Bengali members called, 'Koronakalin Kolam'. It is a commentary on the years during the Covid-19 pandemic and how people endured the problems which arose during that time. He has written on various other contemporary issues as well. We are so grateful to him and his staff to have us here and to share these valuable experiences with the school.
