Niue

Reported by Stacey Marsh 5.0 km

On Friday 1 November, the Peace Torch landed in Niue.

Jo Ikitoelagi - PA as Focal Point of 50th Niue Constution Celebrations - met the team at the airport, and has taken on the role of local coordinator.

The Peace Run's first meeting was at the New Zealand and Australian High Commission office...

...to meet Her Excellency Katy Stuart, High Commissioner of Australia, and His Excellency Mark Gibb, High Commissioner of New Zealand...

...and to run through the Peace Run events planned for the team's week in Niue.

The Peace Run's first night in Niue had a beautifully clear night sky.

Jo has been promoting the Peace Run events to the local community...

...having organised an official public relay run in a few days and extended an invitation for anyone to meet the Peace Run team and hold the torch.

We set off early to make our way slowly around the island.

Stopping to meet locals, share the Peace Torch...

...and hear their stories.

Niue is a slice of heaven...

...and at every turn provides the possibility of a relaxed and adventurous time with the Peace Torch.

It was hard to move on given the wonder and beauty of where we were.

Niue is a raised coral atoll, the largest in the world...

with a reef around the island...

...that calls you in at every moment.

As the Peace Torch made its way down to a chasm, we met some tourists who were thrilled to hold the torch...

...and take some time to hear all about the Peace Run...

...before taking in the breathtaking limestone cliff.

Niue is like no country this Peace Run team has ever been before.

It was a stunning day of travelling the Peace Torch to majestic and beautiful spots around the island.

A perfect end to the first day in Niue.
