Kathmandu

Reported by Harashita Sunaoshi

Our final day starts with the visit to Patan High School in Latipur, Kathmandu.

In the auditorium we start the Peace Run programme.

Our special guests join 'feeling peace inside your heart' exercise.

We present two Torch Bearer Awards here. The first recipient is revered monk Ven. Bikshuu Nigrodha. We are grateful for his life as a living example of compassion, wisdom, and unwavering selflessness for the Buddhist community and beyond. Former Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust, lecturer in Buddhist Studies and many more, he has promoted significantly Buddhist teachings and community development.

The second recipient is track and field coach and sports science lecturer Mr. Diwakar Lal Amatya. He has dedicated his life to athletics, sports development and the growth of sports science in Nepal. On the first day in Kathmandu, he very kindly presented another Torch Bearer Award to our friend-runner Santoshi Shrestha, and we are very happy to see him again, this time as a recipient of the Award.

We then came out to the school yard for a short run with the Torch.

Our revered monk Ven. Bhikshu Nigrodha leads the way.

Everyone has a chance to hold the Peace Torch, putting in their prayers and wishes for peace.

And each one got a card with the artwork and an aphorism of the founder Sri Chinmoy.

Principal Mr. Kumar Chaulagain receives the Certificate of Appreciation from the team.

Vice Principal (second left) and teachers, who kindly took part in the ceremony.

Harashita met a JICA volunteer PE teacher from Japan, sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She will stay here for 2 years in total. All the best!

Our last visit is to Boxmandu, a boxing gym where a number of national champions train and offer boxing classes. This visit became possible because of the friendship between one of the boxers and our member, Jorge Pina, former Paralympian from Portugal.

We first stand facing each other, and give a brief presentation about ourselves.

We present Torch Bearer Award to boxing champion and coach, Mr Umesh Katuwal. He has set an unparalleled legacy by his record-breaking victories across seven different weight categories, as well as his commitment to guide young talent.

Certificate of Appreciation from the Peace Run team.

Then the fun begins! The national champion boxers very kindly give us a 15-minute boxing lesson for beginners!

During the lesson, we found out our Uzbek member Ulugbek's love of boxing in his childhood. Soon, he finds himself with one of the champions for a match, with Mr. Umesh as the official judge!

We are quite impressed with Ulugbek's capacity to keep going in the match for a little while!...but in the end....

However, the peace-loving coach grants victory to both!

Afterwards they hold the Peace Torch together.

All the female members!

All the promising champions train hard to win international titles. Life as a boxer in Nepal is not easy, but they are dreaming high. Thank you so much for having us! It was a joyful visit, and a memorable finish to the week-long Nepal Peace Run 2025!
