Tarrafal - Pedra Badejo

Reported by Devashishu Torpy, Sukham da Rocha 40.0 km

Another sunny day in the Cabo Verde islands.

The Mayor of Tarrafal runs with us.

Escola Central is our first school.

The vice director of the school (on the left) and our hostess Mena.

Peace is like a tree. It grows slowly and steadily, and offers shade to all.

A lot of the roads in Cabo Verde are made of bricks.

The coastline is spectacular - but there is no time for a swim.

The members of the team suspended in mid air.

Around the island we see goats, pigs, donkeys, dogs, cows and every morning we hear the call of the roosters.

The coast road is undulating.

Achada Tenda School.

Our cameraman finds a good place to film the ceremony.

This wood will fuel the fire for cooking.

Our Peace Run bus is the national football team's bus.

There are some beautiful colours around the island.

Alvaro Furtado School.

There was very little rain during the rain season in 2014 - so most of the island is very dry.

The fireman (bombeiros) asks to hold the torch and run.

Olimpio Antonio Luciano School. In Cabo Verde we are not so far from the equator so the midday sun is almost directly above us.

The runners demonstrate the difference between oneness and disharmony. Here a runner has pushed his competitors to the floor and the children disapprove.

Children from many schools were waiting for us at a stadium in the municipality of Sao Miguel. There were football teams and fast sprinters there.

The children offered a very moving rendition of the national anthem.

These two gentlemen suddenly appeared with a powerful sound system strapped to the roof of their van. On this day every year a certain type of muisc is celebrated - Funana. It is a lively sound with a fast rhythm - injecting energy into the runners.

The runners in the blue and white singlets are workers from a rehabilitation centre - Tenda El-Sharrain.

Entering Santa Cruz - our destination for the day.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Alberto Goncalves Silva.

In the Town Hall we are invited to sign the guest book and leave a message of Peace.
