Vila Praia Âncora - Valença do Minho

Reported by Dipavajan Renner, Sukham da Rocha 36.0 km

It was a wonderful morning in Vila Praia Âncora.

We arrived near the sea-shore, where the mayor and a group of children welcomed us...

...local ultra-distance runners...

The mayor spoke kind words...

...and ran quite a bit with us...

...a beautiful route near the Atlantic Ocean...

...the local runners brought us on a scenic trail...

Near Caminha Spain greeted us from across the river...

As we reached Caminha another group of runners joined in...

...we reached the city centre...

Painted tiles everywhere - here you can see Belem - tower from Lisbon...

The Peace Run claimed this tower for today!

...it was a day for pigeons...

The mayor of Vila Praia Âncora, who happens to be also the mayor of Caminha, joined us once more...

Thank you for running with us!

A most welcome lunch - thank you Caminha for the hospitality!

We reached the primary school "Vilar de Lamas" in Arão...

All the children carried white balloons...

We didn't sing so bad...

...no words...

Push-ups as punishment for cheating in the country-guessing game...

Peace can be felt in the heart...

...and all the balloons got airborne...

...as well as the pigeons...

Thank you Arão for the enthusiastic welcome!

The children joined us for quite a distance!

...reaching Valença do Minho with our local organisers...

...more kids joined in...

The historic part of Valença do Minho is located in the centre of an old fortress...

...reaching the main square...

Valença do Minho has a twin-city, Tui. One city is in Portugal, the other one in Spain. Together they form a European city: Valença - Tui.
Both mayors welcomed the Peace Run!

From both cities we got a beautiful medal....

A choir from the "Academia de Música da Fortaleza de Valença" greeted us with Gospel-singing.

An excellent performance!

Thank you Valença - Tui for the heartfelt meeting!

Both mayors took off for a symbolic Run...

...spontaneously we decided to carry the torch over the bridge to Spain - to connect both cities also with the Peace Run!

...the last meters...

...a great view of Tui...

Welcome to Spain!
