Eberswalde - German/Polish border

Reported by Amur Bašić, Krzysztof Krawczak 81.0 km

Our first stop this Sunday morning was at Chorin monastery which has a long history. Sven Alhelm, the monastery's project leader for spiritual tourism, welcomes the team and likens our Peace Running to a pilgrimage and "praying with your feet".

We felt peace and simplicity inside the walls of the chapel.

There is a summer music festival inside this impressive hall.

This former Cistercian monastery is one of Brandenburg's chief historical monuments of early Gothic brick architecture.

Offering the Peace Run Certificate to the monastery ...

... and a soulful rendition or our Peace Run song with a moment of silence.

The whole monastery is under reconstruction to its original shape.

Dr. Franziska Siedler, head of the administration of the monastery, also welcomed us - she had been busy with a local TV crew.

We could feel and imagine people working and praying for peace and light in the medieval times.

A sudden rain shower could not stop Chingiz on the way to Angermünde.

Mayor Frederik Bewer received us in sunny Angermunde.

He is also head of the sports club X-treme Uckermark.

Club members joined us in front of the City Hall ...

... and passed the torch.

They helped our coordinator Mahiya to pick the nicest route to the Polish border.

"Nations of the world, fight against hatred and envy, then there will be peace for all times", reads the text on wheel inside City Hall.

Old style statues on the main square playing with water.

And we continue our run accompanied by club members ...

... and the mayor in his nice yellow-green Angermünde-e-car.

Local people do not miss the opportunity to take a photo with us, hear about the Peace Run and hold the torch.

Planning is important.

Uckermark flora ...

Running along the National Park of the lower Oder valley

The torch is crossing the German/Polish border to our joy.

Meeting our Polish friends ...

And right at the border we were surrounded by local kids...

...and their families.

Some members of our team are heading back home...

to Berlin or New York ....

Thank you Germany.

Goodbye foto ....

The Polish team treats us in Szczecin (Stettin) in a wonderful Thai cafe.

The great architecture of Szczecin /Stettin impressed us.
