The 47th Annual Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival returns to India Point Park in Providence, Rhode Island.

Since 1976, the Rhode Island Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival is the oldest celebration of the Cape Verdean community in the United States. It serves to preserve the Cape Verdean culture and heritage.

We were honored that the Peace Run was invited to participate in this year's Independence Day Festival.

It's a day-long experience featuring traditional music, food, arts and crafts. There were various vendors, sponsors, and non profit groups. Many local government officials held the Torch.

We provided materials for children to make peace drawings.

It was a beautiful day to share the Peace Run. Pictured here are Governor Daniel McKee, the First Lady, and Councilman John Goncalves holding the Torch.

Lt. Governor Sabina Matos and her husband.

Attorney General Peter Neronha and former Police Chief Joseph Tavares.

Mayor Maria Rivera of Central Falls came to join Sharani and Sharika at the Peace Run display.

Mayor Roberto DaSilva from the City of East Providence.

Our good friend, Mayor Donald Grebien from the City of Pawtucket.

Rhode Island State Senator Sandra Cano and Carlene Fonseca of the Cape Verdean Heritage Sub-Committee.

Virginia Goncalves of the Cape Verdean Museum and one of the original founders of the Independence Day Festival.

Thanks to all the volunteers.

Dr. Silas Pinto

A special thank you to the Cape Verdean Heritage Sub-Committee for hosting and organizing a wonderful event enjoyed by all ages.

O dreamers of peace, come.
Let us walk together.
O lovers of peace, come.
Let us run together.
O servers of peace, come.
Let us grow together.
