Maio 15, 2013 Live from the road

Gaia - Aveiro

Reported by Patricio da Rocha

We started the day by running along the sea shore near Gaia...

Paula, our yesterday's coordinator, does it all alone...

Many thanks to the police of Gaia for the great support!

We reached Espinho. The kids from the Dr. Manuel Larangeira School lined up around the school and gave us a "High Five"...

...many to go...

...approx. 900 kids later your hands hurt, but it's all fun!

...with some kids of the school we launched the "City Run".

...and reached the next school: Dr. Manuel Gomes de Almeida

Thanks to the police of Espinho!

...now all children together ran with us to the city hall...

..the Portuguese party continued...

..the city hall...

Mrs. Leonor Ledo received the torch on behalf of Espinho.

The representatives of the Fire Departament and the Police of Espinho received the torch...

The head masters of the schools held the torch as well...

...and the torch went through all the hands on the square...

..great performances...

...the pigeons were about to be released...

..oooops! Some pigeons decided to fall down instead of flying up...

...but finally all of them made it safely...

Thank you Espinho for the great welcome!

...we reached the EB1 Anta 3 school for lunch. The kids were quite excited to see our int. team...

Thanks for the hospitality!

..good bye Espinho!

...we reached Ovar. Some kids from the Secundaria Jose Macedo Fragateiro school and the EB23 Antonio Dias Simoes school awaited us to run with us...

Ovar is called the "capital of the tiles". Traditionally houses in Portugal are most beautifully decorated with colorful tiles, mainly hand painted...

The main square was awaiting the runners...

The deputy mayor of Ovar, Mr. Vitor Ferreira received the flaming torch...

...and some performances...

Gonzalez Vieira and Dino Formigal, heads of the police and fire departament held the flame together...

...more pigeons, but those were lucky. No problems at the take-off...

Thank you Ovar for the nice meeting!

On our final run towards Aveiro runners from the GNR, lead by Luis Petronilho joined us for quite a distance...

Thanks for running with us!
