Kirkjubæjarklaustur - Höfn í Hornafirði

Reported by Harita Davies, Natabara Rollosson 134.0 km

Two teams took a short hike up on the base of the Svinafells Glacier with the kind guidance of Icelandic Mountain Guides at Skaftafell (Íslenskir Fjallaleidsogumenn) who provided the service for free for the runners.

Tvö lið fóru í stutta gönguferð á Svínafellsjökul undir góðri leidsögn Íslenskra Fjallaleiðsögumanna í Skaftafelli. Þeir gáfu hlaupurum Friðarhlaupsins ókeypis göngu og leiðsögn.

Maria from Slovakia was our guide, walking us up to a good view of the glacier falls.

María frá Slóvakíu var leiðsögumaður okkar.

Gentlemen from Israel stopped in the rain to enthusiastically show their support for the run. "Shalom! We need peace! God bless you for what you are doing!" They gave us a real boost.

We continue to meet so many friendly people from many different countries along the way! Children from Italy tested Natabara's Italian -- he barely passed.

While some of the team was on the glacier, the rest of us were on a spectacular boat ride in the Jökulsárlón Lagoon.

Simon and Karolina, our brother and sister team from Czech Republic, along with most of the team, had never seen anything like this before!

Ívar Lilliendahl very kindly let Pranava go along for the ride in the support boat so he could take some photos. Thank you so much! Also a big thank you to our wonderful guide, Hanna Maia, and the Glacier Lagoon Cruise Company for so kindly giving our whole team a complimentary amphibian boat tour on the lagoon!

The icebergs take 6-7 years to melt once they reach the lagoon, and the average age of the ice is 1500 years! Only 10% of the iceberg is actually above the water

The lagoon was only formed 70 years ago, and now it is the deepest lake in Iceland, between 70 and 200 metres deep!

The weather was a little cooler today, but the scenery was still spectacular!

We were so happy that some local runners met us 6 km out of Hofn i Hornafirdi and ran into town with us!

The local organiser was so enthusiastic that he brought along his whole family!

We all sang the World Harmony Run Song with actions, and visited the tree our team planted 2 years ago!

Thank you so much to all our friends from the town of Hofn, who came out to meet us and were so enthusiastic despite the rain and cold!

Finishing a great meal.

We finished the day with a wonderful meal provided by Halldór Hallórsson and Kristín Hallsdóttir(chef and owner) of Pakkhús Restaurant.
