Stirling - Edinburgh

Reported by Dhavala Stott 60.0 km

We started our Scottish Peace Run on the beautiful grounds of Stirling University.

Sabah Bhatti, a faith representative from the University Chaplaincy was very enthusiastic to make her wish for peace.

She led us on a run around the loch, together with some local runners.

The campus is in a very peaceful setting, surrounded by rolling hills and with views of the Wallace Monument, a statue to William Wallace.

We were given a tour of the facilities at the University Sport Centre.

The University has a strong focus on sport and we heard how the facilities are used by several Olympians as well as students and local clubs of all ages.

Thank you for welcoming the Peace Run and sharing how you help many people achieve their sporting goals.

Harita came across a student from the University waiting for a bus, then discovered that they both live in New York.

We took a run up to Stirling Castle.

Still going up......the castle is built on a volcanic crag!

David welcomed us to the castle and led us inside to show us a few of the highlights from this historic castle, which has been the seat of many Kings and Queens of Scotland.

We met many visitors to the castle who were keen to hold the Peace Torch.

Many Thanks to the staff at the Castle for showing us around.

The Great Hall, which was completed in1503 is the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland.

Leaving the castle, we headed through the narrow streets of Stirling to start our run to Edinburgh.

Better check we know the way!

Harita from New Zealand has a lot of Scottish ancestery and was thrilled to be able to visit the street in Tillicoultry where her relatives lived many years ago.

Uranta organised our events in Stirling today and was happy to get a few miles in.

We went through the picturesque village of Culross in Fife, which has been used for several film and tv sets.

The Queensferry crossing spans the River Forth between Fife and Edinburgh.

The Forth Rail Bridge is a World Heritage site and was dedicated as a Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossom in 1996.
