San Simeon - Monterey

Reported by Natabara Rollosson 97.0 mi

Lavendar graces the backyard of Jibitesh's house. He was up early to go to the bakery to get fresh bagels and cream cheese.

Waking up to a fresh breakfast spread is really, really nice!

Paripurnata gasps at our shoes at her front door. Lucky for her we didn't bring them inside.

At 62, Arpan has been having a challenging run this year, but he insists he is up for the challenge.

A well deserved Certificate of Appreciation.

This beautiful house and host committee is both a staple as well as an anticipated destination each time the Run comes to the West Coast. You can tell by he happy and rested faces that we enjoyed it yet again, and eagerly look forward to our return next Run.

Zebras are the result of William Randolph Hearst's desire to have them near his castle. Sadly we didn't make it to the castle this year, but we saw some amazing pictures.

We were captivated by a wrestling match in the sand.

Elephant seals are just north of San Simeon. This one was making a not so endearing sound.

No, these seals aren't dead. But they seemed to be doing a good impression, aside from throwing sand over themselves.

More elephant seals. In the background.

Defying gravity, Dennis runs diagonally.

Many cyclists enjoy riding the Big Sur coastline, and as runners we could appreciate the challenge of some of the hills.

Dennis prepares for a backdive.

You can't help but notice the wildlife everywhere.

Large rocks dotted the coastline, enhancing the already amazing vistas.

People stopped from all over -- these tourists were from Germany.

Homagni cranks out another mile.

Trees. You gotta love 'em.

The coastline is just too inspiring to just saunter through.

Big Sur!

Jennifer showing all her pearly teeth.

Functional fashion is important part of the run.

Suhashini in a rare moment of silence.

Joy just emanates from our Balinese teammate.

This is a depiction of the inner realities.

We couldn't help but appreciate the lads on a training run, seemingly enjoying a respite as they wait for the walk signal. The belts were an accessory that both puzzled us and somehow made us envious. Utility belts?

Anthony the Great cooked us an unbelievable vegetarian dinner with fresh pasta.

To say we are grateful to both Anthony and Lisa at Julia's Vegetarian Restaurant is an understatement. We were so moved by their kind offer to provide dinner for the entire team, and their hospitality was so warm and inspiring. It is so good to know that such kind-hearted people are out there in the world!

Josh and Danielle, two diners, also joined us for a group photo. Both were also kind-hearted in their support of the Run and we were so glad to have met them.

We started off the day with a Certificate of Appreciation and ended the day with one as well. Julia's was the find of the day, we are still smiling from the hearty food and warm-hearted experience there.
