Taber, Alberta - Gull Lake, Saskatchewan

Reported by Kanala Bolvanska 298.0 km

We decided to run together to brave strong dry head wind so typical for this beautiful province

After about 30km the scenery changed dramatically and we arrived into a paradise-like Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park

...anyone seen my mum?

And Ivan's Restaurant treated to a complementary scruptious lunch...

...served by very friendly staff...

...offered by Wes Eng, the owner of the Cypress Hills Resort. His father Ivan established the resort in 1987 - the year that Peace Run started.

Thank you to Wes and his lovely wife Kim (who is also a runner and might take us for a trail run next time) and chef Rolando.

Then we ran through the Park ...

to the Shagabec summer camp

where campers and councellors were already waiting for us.

Amburoha - "our national dish is pirogy"

Feeling peace in the heart

and goodness, friendship...

If someone gets injured and we help them, it helps us all to have peace and harmony

We offer our Certificate of Appreciation to David Fletcher who organised this event with Shagabec Camp with great enthusiasm

Nature's beauty all around in abundance

Time to hold the Peace Torch and make a wish for peace

or love

or friendship

or mutual respect

and run around the lake for peace

Children were stationed around the lake to run for a few hundred metres

but in fact...

...several of them continued with us along the whole route!

It feels so good, even wearing flip-flops;-)

'From me to you'

Enthusiasm and joy spreads and fills everyone

Time to say good bye. We had a great afternoon, thanks campers and councellors of Shagabec!
As you tought us: "Bravo, bravo, bravissimo, job well done, zowie...!"

Saskatchewan's hospitality: delicious home made pizza from all local ingredients offered to us at Decades Dinner in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. Special thanks to Sherry and Luke for your warm hospitality and delicious first class pizza. Good luck with the remainder of your 50's style renovations, the finishing touch to great food.

Sherry, the big hearted owner of Decades Restaurant holds the torch with us.

Gull Lake Mayor Blake Campbell and Craig and Layla Baird encouraged us with their presence during a campfire storytelling evening - there's so much to share

Wishes of peace and safe journey from Mayor Blake Campbell

Craig and Layla Baird of FreeBaird Services are historians, videographers and writers, making a documentary on South-west Saskatchewan. They were so friendly and attentive, it felt like they were our old friends. We are thrilled they have produced a short film on the Peace Run and amazed they were able to do it so quickely. You can view it here.
