Wexford - Bray

Reported by Sadanand Colm Magee 110.0 km

The international team arrives in Ireland for St. Patrick Day. We had a day full of festivities and joy including two parades in Wexford and Bray.

Three leprechauns appeared in the morning!

A big thank you to the three hotels who very kindly provided accommodation for the international team, namely the Maldron Hotel...

Ferrycarraig Hotel...

and Whitford Hotel. http://www.whitfordhotelwexford.ie/ James Whitty, the owner of Whitford Hotel, is himself a talented ultra-runner and a member of the newly formed Wexford marathon club. Many of the club members warmly greeted us in the morning for a run into Wexford town.

James makes a wish for Peace.

We had some decoration work to do for the Wexford St. Patricks Day Parade.

Decorating the van.

Balavan had grown a nice beard for the occasion.

And the Parade begins!

We meet many marching bands such as this group from Scotland.

Batman and Captain America take a moment to hold the torch.

A commeration group celebrating the 100th anniversary of Irish Independance which happens in two weeks time.

Meeting many smiling faces on the way.

Green, white and gold is the colour of the day.

A bodhran (Irish drum) player.

We arrive at the grand veiwing stand.

Mayor of Wexford, Ger Carthy, holds the Peace torch and offers some kind words of support.

We are invited up on stage for photo with the Mayor.

Local Police are happy to hold the torch.

After the Parade everyone is ready for lunch.

We would like to thank Patricia and Isabella from Centra on Trinity Street for kindly providing lunch for the Team.

Gorse is blossoming.

We run up Ferrycarraig castle.

Our next stop is Bray for another St. Patricks day Parade.

Our own Peace runners, Alex and Ben, hold the torch.

People from all backgrounds and cultures participate.

Joy had by all!

The costumes are amazing!

Even the aliens want to hold the torch.

Our Irish coordinator meets his cousin, Patrice, in the crowd.

We assemble before the main veiwing stage.

The Mayor of Bray, Brendan Thornhill holds the torch and wishes the team the very best of luck.

We finish by beach in Bray bringing to a close a very eventful day.

We would like to thank Spice restaurant in Wexford for the delicious Indian cuisine they offered on the night of the 16th.

And also a big thank thank you to Govindas restaurant in Dublin for providing a delicious meal for the Team on the 17th.

Happy Peace runners.
