Casino, NSW - Coffs Harbour, NSW

Reported by Niribili File 187.0 km

Yet another fine day – we have been so fortunate with Australia's glorious weather!

From our motor camp (under canvas) at Casino, it was just a short drive to Casino Public School, where we were greeted by the Assistant Principal, Wendy King.

The Mayor of Richmond Valley, Robert Mustow attended the school presentation, gave a speech and presented the team with caps ...

... the white ones advertising “Beef Week” and navy blue caps “Richmond Valley”.

Mayor Mustow took a turn with the Torch in the playground.

Peace Run team member Nikolaus was happy to greet a fellow Austrian, Lena, who is working for the Richmond Valley Council.

After the meeting at the school, our Team Captain, Amalendu Edelsten did a radio interview.

Just out of Casino Nurari Merry from the UK was running and a road worker ushered her through some road works. He said he had just heard about the Peace Run on ABC Radio.

Thereafter we got lots of toots from motorists. The girls team completed 30 km of running before our 2pm presentation, while meanwhile ...

... the boys team were playing frisbee (again) ...

... stretching (again) ...

... sleeping (again) ...

... and occasionally running.

Yes the Torch does sometimes go out ...

... in which case it needs to be re-fuelled.

That's enough running for now. It's 2pm, time for the team's next engagement ...

... at Clarence Valley Anglican School in Grafton.

The students at this school had prepared two projects on peace – 6 students read out their own peace pledges ...

... and many had made paper origami doves to show the team.

Mayor of Clare Valley, Jim Simmons attended the ceremony.

The School Principal, Martin Oates, was happy to receive a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of his school.

The Mayor and Principal are joined by Robyn Vicary, PA to the Principal.

Lastly we all gathered outside ...

... where Deputy Principal Aaron Dewhurst addressed the students ...

... prior to the planting of a Jacaranda tree as a "Peace Tree" to honour of the occasion.

The girls team then hit the road with purpose ...

... covering a further 20 km before arriving ...

... tired but happy ...

... at our motel in Coffs Harbour, where Dave the proprietor has taken excellent care of us at the Sapphire Beach Holiday Park.
