Bomarsund - Eckerö

Reported by Devashishu Torpy 50.0 km

A traditional pole around which people dance to herald in the summer.

This fortress was built by the Russians when they ruled Finland from 1809 to 1917. In the 1850's they were attacked by British, French and Turkish ships and since then the island of Aland has been demilitarised - there are no weapons permitted on the island.

It is an extremely peaceful place - the peace pervades the water, land and air!

Jigyasu from Helsinki is proud to carry the torch across Aland.

Jigyasu picks up some new potatoes.

It has been an unusually hot summer, and the trees look like they are already in autumn.

WE reach our goal - Eckero.

The Mayor offers us a tour of City Hall.

As we are waiting for our ferry to Sweden, a French family from Lyon ask about the Peace Run.
