Franz Josef - Haast

Reported by Abhejali Bernardová, Rathin Boulton 140.0 km

Morning in beautiful Franz Josef town.

The Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools are dedicated as a Sri Chinmoy Peace-Blossom, a program in which places around the world known for their beauty, historical or cultural significance are recognised for their contributions to achieving a peaceful world.

Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools Business Manager Ashley Cassin welcomes the runners and is very keen to learn more about the Peace Run.

He shows us the place where the plaque will be placed so that many people will be able to see it.

Ashley and his wife Charlotte are both extraordinary athletes.

We are offered free coffee to get us going - thank you very much!

Ashley, peace running in jandals!

Before starting to run, the girls team hike to the base of Franz Josef Glacier.

This lovely couple had seen us running on the previous day and wish us all the best.

We meet many lovely people on our walk to the glacier.

These ladies are from Germany and they ask when is the Peace Run coming to their country.

What a great team.

We have quite a few kilometres to cover.

The girls have some big hills today.

...Abhejali seems to get all of them!

Fox Glacier through the trees.

The running is beautiful and people really love seeing us (judging by the toots).

Back to the coast.

Sandro bears the flame.

We meet a team of Citroën enthusiasts on the road.

...and a cyclist!

...and a piwakawaka

Getting a little rest before the runner comes.

Curious cows.

Which way do we go?

Dolphins sport and frolic in the Tasman sea. It gives us a lot of joy to watch them.

Crossing the long bridge into Haast.

What a great day!!

Thank you to the Asure Aspiring Court Motel for hosting some of our team members...

...and also a big thank you to Heartland World Heritage Hotel for hosting the rest!
