Upon invitation by Principal Dolores Cupp of the Hurley Fine and Performing Arts Magnate Cluster School, Peace Run representatives* opened Hurley’s annual Multicultural Fest. PEACE was the program’s theme. Program highlights included: Peace Run introduction and video, as well as Sri Chinmoy aphorisms on peace and each person’s role in creating peace. Children, representing different countries, held poster of their country and stated the word for “peace” in that country’s language.

The Multicultural Fest, a music and dance extravaganza, was presented to families as the culminating achievement of their children’s work as the school year closed. Each classroom learned about one country and performed some unique aspect of this country’s culture.

The Peace Run representatives also visited children and youth in their classrooms and in the hall as they gathered to perform. An introduction was given about Peace. Then, they were invited to hold the Peace Torch and make a wish for Peace.

In addition, Hurley School is the site of the Sri Chinmoy Peace Tree planted in the front yard on June 1, 2012. As one kindergartener stated, “I helped plant this Peace Tree. I will remember this for the rest of my life.”

The Peace Run is glad to collaborate with this fine magnet school, which dedicates its efforts to educate successful children and youth. Special thanks go out to Principal Dolores Cupp, Assistant Principal Leopoldo Acosta, and Teacher Amalia Segura for their support.
