Today we were special guests at the Gallipoli Marathon (Canakkale Marathon) which has the motto, "I Run For Peace".

This is the monument on the toe of the peninsula that stands in memory of the battle at Gallipoli and as a testament to Peace

This is Morto Koyu - 'Death Bay'. Here many unsuspecting British soldiers were killed during an amphibious landing in 1915. Further up the coast the Anzacs ran into similar troubles.

This location has now become a place for all countries involved in the conflict to forge new bonds of friendship and goodwill.

The great leader of the Turkish nation Ataturk, who was a general at the Gallipoli conflict said, "YOU, THE MOTHERS, WHO SENT THEIR SONS FROM FARAWAY COUNTRIES WIPE AWAY YOUR TEARS: YOUR SONS ARE NOW LYING IN OUR BOSOM AND ARE IN PEACE. AFTER HAVING LOST THEIR LIVES ON THIS LAND, THEY HAVE BECOME OUR SONS AS WELL".
