Pokhara - Lumbini

Reported by Harashita Sunaoshi 1.0 km

Today we arrive in Lumbini, the city famous as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. The team pays a respectful visit to Maya Devi Temple, where Maya Devi gave birth to Lord Buddha.

A group of Indian students. Here you see a lot of pilgrimage visitors from all over the world.

Eternal Peace Flame

WIth the kind permission of the authority, we light the Peace Torch with the Eternal Flame.

Many monks meditating at the Temple hold the Torch.

In a local cafe nearby, we find a framed photo of the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant. He was the source and initiator of the whole development of this sacred place. Incidentally, Secretary-General U Thant was the one who invited our founder Sri Chinmoy to lead the Peace Meditation at the United Nations in 1970.

In the evening, some of the team members take an adventure-tour of the village.
